Underlying Security Symbol: NEM
I nibbled at a number of stocks today and one was Newmont, the gold and copper mining company. Due to Omicron, the company issued a warning that their financial results may not be as good as hoped. The stock softened this afternoon and I nibbled at it.
I have a base position in NEM. It is quite fluid because I sell calls quite often and quite often they are assigned. When I see weakness I add back. NEM checks several boxes and that includes the dividend yield of 3.22% and the call potential.
If you add today, you will most likely receive the $.55 dividend. NEM goes ex-dividend on March 9, 2022.
I sold this call today on my new shares;
Below is another call for you to consider. The premium is a juicy $2.00 which is nearly a full year of dividends. But the expiration date is in May.
During times of uncertainty, I use shorter expiration periods. I don't mind a little churn from calls being assigned. When the call expires, I wait until the next call opportunity comes up. During that time, I am getting the dividend.
An idea for today.
